The Rev. R. Douglas Throop - Minister

The Rev. Dr. Douglas Throop (Doug) has an enthusiasm for worship and prefers an approach that is equally liturgical, contextual, and joyous. One that deepens our relationship with God while anchoring our living out of this faith in caring for each other and God’s creation.
Doug has ministered in rural, suburban, inner city, university campus, and First Nations communities. Doug has served congregations in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. He holds a BA in Art and Architectural History from Queen’s University, an MA in Art and Theology from McGill University, a Diploma in Ministry from the United Theological College, and a doctorate from Princeton Theological Seminary.
Having studied art history and being a painter himself, Doug finds the arts a fruitful area for theological interaction, the deepening of our faith experience, and a place of personal renewal. Musically he enjoys jazz, opera, classical, and retro pop music. He has a fondness for the spirituality of Japanese meditative gardens and French labyrinths. An avid walker and former hunter/jumper equestrian, Doug enjoys the outdoors be it urban or country.

Alberto Santos - Director of Music

Alberto Santos , a classically trained pianist with a bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from Concordia University, holds a deep understanding of harmonic languages that brings to light the intricate beauty of compositions from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His artistic passion finds inspiration in revered French composers like Debussy, Fauré, Ravel, and Satie. As our dedicated Music Director, Alberto's leadership weaves a vibrant tapestry of genres into our church services—jazz, gospel, contemporary pop, Broadway classics, and multicultural songs in various languages—fostering unity and spiritual enrichment. This inclusive repertoire reflects his appreciation for the diverse qualities of music, while his affinity for its contemplative aspects adds depth to our worship experience.

Alberto excels in multiple roles—performer, collaborator, arranger, sound engineer and private instructor (in both music and chess). His musical contributions extend to esteemed choirs such as the McGill Choral Society, Women Making Music, Musika Mississauga Children’s Chorus, The Study Senior Choir, and Ensemble Choral Saint‐Eustache. Beyond the church, his substantial online presence boasts over 100,000 dedicated YouTube subscribers, eager to engage with his intricate piano arrangements.
