Teen Music Mountainside
TM² is the youth music program based at Mountainside United Church in Westmount; we are a band consisting of youth aged 13-19. We play a variety of styles of music, both Christian and secular, from rock to reggae to soul/R&B, and we rehearse every Sunday from 12:30-2:00 p.m.
This band was started in 2003 by an eager group of church teens who wanted to participate in worship their own way. Their original intention was to play service music for morning worship at Mountainside United Church several times a year; TM² has since been invited to participate in services at several other churches and to perform at various events.
Some of these included a trip to Toronto to play during Sunday worship at Islington United Church, a trip to Boston to play at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, and a performance at the World Council of Churches forum on climate change and social justice coinciding with the United Nations Climate Change conference in Montreal. We have also taken part in a mutual youth exchange with
City View United Church in Ottawa.
In addition to all of our worship-related activities, we have gone into the studio and recorded our CD "Inspiration" and we also hold our own concert every year as a fundraiser for the program and as a fun chance for the band members to play music of their own choice.
TM² is more than just a band; we are a group of teens who enjoy spending time together doing something creative and positive. Even though our home base is Mountainside United Church, our membership reaches beyond our congregation and we gladly welcome all singers and musicians (any instrument) age 13-19 to join us.
