Worship
Regular Sunday morning worship services are held in the Sanctuary at 11 a.m. and at 10 a.m. in the Chapel during July and August. Communion is celebrated approximately every second month. Special services highlight the seasons of the Christian year, such as Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. At times our worship services are enriched by visiting guest preachers or pulpit exchange from other denominations. Please consult our Calendar for seasonal details. All are welcome to worship with us. Mountainside United Church follows the Christian Calendar year, Advent to Pentecost. We join with many denominations in using the Revised Common Lectionary which provides a three-year cycle of scripture readings and psalms for each Sunday throughout the year. Within each service our prime focus is to offer a structure in which the individual can feel supported in their personal approach to God - with music, sermons and prayer playing an important part. In all, the focus of the service remains the abiding good news of Jesus. Lay leadership by members of our congregation provides a wonderful opportunity to express our faith through witness and service by reading scripture lessons, taking part in intergenerational services, ushering, receiving the offering and lay preaching. Our worship is enhanced by our Senior Choir and the music of the von Beckerath organ. Our "Teen Music Mountainside" (TM2) youth band plays both sacred and secular music in a variety of styles on special occasions. During services, you may leave your infants or toddlers in the care of a well-qualified babysitter in Crib Corner. Older children are warmly invited to participate in our Church School program. Crib Corner and Creative Corner are available for older children while parents worship in the Chapel during the summer months. |
